Happy Friday!! 🙂 With Christmas just a few days away, I thought it would be fun to use this post to share some of my favorite “Advent 2013” finds. Enjoy! 🙂
Favorite Article: “No Room for Advent” by Bobby Angel
To anyone who hasn’t read this yet, read it! Why? Because Advent isn’t quite over yet, and Bobby (Jackie Francois’s husband) gives some excellent pointers on how to prepare for Christmas such as abstaining from something…brilliant!
Favorite Book: The Blessing of Christmas by Joseph Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI)
I didn’t even know this book existed until I saw it on the shelf at the public library earlier this week, but I’m glad I found it! Taken straight from the preface:
~”This book brings together in one volume two earlier books by Joseph Ratzinger that perfectly compliment each other: Licht, das uns leuchtet (The light that shines upon us; 1978) and Lob der Wehnacht (Praise of Christmas; 1982 by Cardinal Ratzinger and Heinrich Schlier). Most of these meditations were written during Cardinal Ratzinger’s time as Archbishop of Munich.”~
It’s only 140 pages, so I’m hoping to finish it by Christmas Day, but it’s been quite a lovely read so far!
Favorite YouTube Video: “Zach Sobiech KS95 Largest “Clouds” Choir
For anyone who doesn’t know the story of Zach Sobiech, I’ll fill you in. 🙂 At the age of 14, this Minnesotan was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a very serious bone cancer. He started writing music after his diagnosis, and his song, “Clouds” (written about his battle with cancer) went live on YouTube last December 2012. Sadly, he passed away in May of this year, but his song has inspired millions! In this video that I posted, over 5000 people came together to sing his song in the Mall of America…how touching!
This Christmas may we be consistent in living the Gospel, welcoming Jesus into the centre of our lives.”~
Favorite Blog Series: Life in the Gap‘s “Profiles in the Gap”
In case you haven’t heard of Life in the Gap, it’s a blog that focuses on the right now and not six months from now or ten years from now. Right now…love it! Our right now is so important especially during this season of Advent as we are waiting for the birth of Jesus. So I’m going to pose the question: what are you doing/what have you been doing during this time to prepare for his birth?
This “Profiles in the Gap” series posed a similar question, what are you doing during this time of singleness, and guest writers have been sharing their stories of how they’ve spent their time “in the gap.” I am so incredibly excited and humbled to have been asked to share my story in this series, so if you get a chance, check out my profile or any of the others!
Well…this concludes my “Advent 2013” awards! To anyone traveling over these next few days/weeks, I will pray for safe travels for you! I recently learned that St. Medard is the patron saint of bad weather, so I will definitely be asking him for some prayers as I head home on Monday!
Any weekend-before-Christmas plans? I’d love to hear about them! Happy Friday!
