I GRADUATE TOMORROW! I know, I know, “Joan, writing sentences in all caps makes it sound like you’re shouting at me,” but that was my intention because I am just that excited. 🙂 So to help celebrate, today I went shopping to find the ‘perfect’ new outfit, and this is what I threw together:
I am just praying that I don’t biff it when walking across the stage to accept my diploma. One of my girlfriends joked with me that if she happens to fall tomorrow, she is going to get up and curtsy. I’m planning on doing the same…
In all seriousness, though, I am really looking forward to tomorrow because 1) I graduate 2) I get to see my parents, and 3) I am moving out of the apartment I’ve lived in since starting grad school back in 2012. Since starting my undergraduate degree in 2007, I have moved 8 times, and this is the place I’ve stayed put the longest. It’s bittersweet because this place has become my home, and my current roommate will be moving back to our hometown. But…on the bright side, my new roommate is fabulous, and the house we’re moving into is amazing, so I feel quite fortunate that everything worked out so well!
A few days ago, I received an email at work, and the following words caught my attention: “Has anyone ever told you before that you look like a celebrity? Send us your pictures!” Over the years I have been told that I look like Anne Hathaway, and at one point I was getting the comment so much that I decided to enter a contest that Kelly and Regis (a few years ago!) were hosting. Unfortunately, I waited until the very last day to submit my photo, and I received a We regret to inform you…email that the photo I submitted was the wrong file size, so I was disqualified from the contest.
So…in the spirit of contests, I decided that it would be fun to see if anyone else has a doppelgänger out there! If you do (or have a friend or family member who has a celebrity look alike) and would be willing to send a photo, I would be delighted to feature some sort of a “Celebrity Look Alike” post or link-up. Let me know if you are interested! 🙂
Last Friday night I attended a talk at my church on incorruptible saints. Two speakers – a school teacher/incorruptible saints’ guru and a pathologist – shared personal and professional experiences with the intent to shed some light on the fascinating topic of incorruptible saints. The school teacher spent six weeks in Europe, and his primary goal while there was to see as many incorruptible saints as physically possible. I had no idea that so many saints are incorruptible, and it was really interesting hearing the pathologist’s talk as he stated that he has never in his practice seen a corpse that didn’t start decaying after a few days. Because of this it is safe to assume that that these holy men and women were in fact different from the average Joe!
A few weeks ago, I shared that I had a job interview for a job that I was incredibly passionate about…well…I got the job! On Monday I will be starting my new position as an eating disorder dietitian, and to anyone unfamiliar with my blog, I used to have an eating disorder and am incredibly interested in helping individuals realize that there is a light at the end of the eating disorder tunnel. On a slightly random side note, Maura Byrne, founder of Made in His Image, in an amazing example of a woman who overcame her eating disorder to help others, and if you don’t already follow Made in His Image on Twitter or Facebook, you should really check it out!
Any idea who the young man in the photo is? (cue Jeopardy music)
If you guessed Pope Francis, then you are correct! I have finally had some time to do some reading this week, and I’m in the process of reading his book, Lumen Fidei (The Light of Faith). It is an incredibly easy read, so if you are looking for some uplifting reading, check it out!
Well, it’s time to get some beauty sleep here, so I don’t fall asleep during the estimated 2.5 hour long ceremony tomorrow, but I hope you have a fantastic weekend! 🙂
Happy Friday! 🙂
