This morning when the second alarm clock rang and after my husband and I said a quick prayer, I heavily debated staying in bed for just another half hour. I had a slight tickle in my throat, and the bed just felt so warm and comfortable, but after I turned on my bedside lamp and swung my feet to the ground, I decided to wake up and join him in his morning workout.
Trudging down the stairs not totally wanting to exercise but knowing it would be nice to have more time before I started work, we shared a banana to get some pre-workout fuel and headed down another flight of stairs to the cold, dark basement.
Now I have to give my husband immense credit because he works out every morning at 5:30 rain or shine during the work week, and he has truly inspired me to at least try to rise with him this Advent. Well this morning’s workout started out the same as any other that we have done, but when we got to a part of the routine where we had to do push ups, it took my third push up (not on my knees!) to realize that I was doing legitimate push ups for the first time in my life! I managed to get out a “Honey!” between breaths of pushing down and up as he turned over and beamed as he knows that I’ve been trying to do push ups for a loooong time! After the set was completed, he stopped the DVD and gave me a big hug and kiss and congratulated me on my feat.
I realize this may not seem that significant, but I have truly never been able to do a full push up, and this morning I not only did 1, but I did 10 without being on my knees! And this is something that I would not have accomplished had I just stayed in bed like I wanted.
So I just wanted to share this simple story with you today to remind you to not miss out on your life! Just last night my mom messaged me about a neighbor who died shoveling his driveway, and it really got me thinking that life is too short to stay under the covers. Get up and start your day and spend time with the ones you love even if it means working out in a dark and cold basement. You never know when the opportunities you seize may lead you to something great! 🙂
Are you planning to do anything this Advent out of your ordinary routine? If so, I’d love to hear about it and pray for you during these next few weeks!
